Vote on a request to approve the contract for services between the Bennett Volunteer Fire Department, Bonlee Volunteer Fire Department, Silk Hope Volunteer Fire Department, Moncure Volunteer Fire Department, The Town of Siler City, Pittsboro Fire & Rescue Department, and Chatham County.
Introduction & Background:
The Bennett Volunteer Fire Department, Bonlee Volunteer Fire Department, Silk Hope Volunteer Fire Department, Moncure Volunteer Fire Department, The Town of Siler City, and Pittsboro Fire & Rescue Department are incorporated nonprofit volunteer fire departments that provide fire protection services, rescue services, and emergency medical responder services to the areas identified as the Bennett Fire District, South Chatham Fire District, Hope Fire District, Moncure Fire District, Central Chatham Fire District, and the Circle City Fire District. In accordance with N.C.G.S. 69-25.5 (Attachment "A") The County presently provides fire protection for the districts by contracting with a city or town, with any incorporated nonprofit volunteer or community fire department. The proposed new contracts (Attachments "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", "G") addresses the change in the percentage of current and delinquent funds collected by the County and remitted to the fire department, the grandfathering of "first responders", the fire department dissolving or ceasing to provide fire protection services within the district, fire department reporting requirements (submittals) contained within Appendix 1, and Excepted Property contained within Appendix 2.
