Vote to approve an agreement to purchase property in ownership of the Chatham County Board of Education located on JS Waters School Road at a value of $23,560.00

Abstract
Introduction & Background: At the request of Chatham County, the Chatham County Board of Education wishes to dispose of a parcel of land in its ownership by way of conveyance to Chatham County pursuant to G.S. 115C-518, which states, "the board of education shall offer the property to the board of commissioners at a fair market price or at a price negotiated between the two boards". The subject property is approximately 3.1 acres and directly north of JS Waters Elementary School in Goldston, with Parcel ID 0068333. The County wishes to acquire this property to advance affordable home ownership by conveying this property to Chatham Habitat for Humanity once acquired by the County.

By resolution, the Board of Education, making the finding that the subject property is no longer necessary for public school purposes, declared this property and made the parcel available to Chatham County at the current total tax value of $23,560. As understood and agreed to by the Board of Education, the $23,560 amount will be used to offset the projected cost of constructing a new elementary school in the Chatham Park North Village.

Discussion & Analysis: The Board of Education has deemed the subject property as surplus, as the Board has no further use for the land or its facilities in relation to school purposes. The County sees value in acquiring this property in order to convey the same to Chatham Habitat for Humanity, which promotes the priorities and values expressed by the Chatham County Board of Commissioners and that of Chatham County's Comprehensive Plan.
