Title

Vote to approve a contract with Bordeaux Construction for the design of the renovations at the Chatham County Detention Center for $420,000

Abstract

Introduction & Background: When the current Detention Center was constructed, there were two inmate wings that were left as shell space to be completed at a later date. As funding is now available and there is an increased need for inmate housing, the County is ready to proceed with the buildout. There will also be some improvements made in the existing wings for safety needs and repairs from the wear and tear since the facility opened.

Discussion & Analysis: The County issued a Request for Qualifications to secure a Design/Build firm to perform all associated tasks from design through construction. Through that process, Bordeaux Construction was chosen as the firm that the County wants to move forward with. This request addresses the initial preconstruction phase of the contract and will require an amendment that will add the Guaranteed Maximum Price for the construction phase once the work has been bid.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Provide infrastructure to support desired development; Become more resilient; Ensure public safety through adequate resources, plans, and partnerships.

Budgetary Impact: This project is proceeding in accordance with the ARPA enabled funds budgeted for this project.

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve a contract with Bordeaux Construction for the design of the renovations at the Chatham County Detention Center for $420,000.
