Title
Recognize retiree Jenny Williams for her retirement from Chatham County Tax Office
Abstract
Introduction & Background: Jenny Williams is currently the second longest tenured employee with Chatham County, beginning her work with us in October 1990. If there is one consistent theme throughout Jenny’s career, it is flexibility and adaptability, something that career public servants do so well. She has held a number of positions with the county, many of which she was approached to fill because of her ability to learn and adapt quickly. She began as an accounting technician, was promoted to purchasing agent in 1996, and then information services assistant in 1998 (even before we had an IT department). When the person in the newly developed central permitting supervisor position left, she was tapped to step out of her comfort zone and use her IT skills to help develop the burgeoning central permitting idea take form. Over time, central permitting became the permits and inspections department with Jenny as the department head. When the tax administrator position became vacant in 2018, Jenny was tapped again to step out of her comfort zone and rely on her organizational and technical ability to lead a new to her function. She jumped in quickly, earning all the certifications in near record time and oversaw the absorption of utility billing into tax and then its transition out when the utility function was transferred to TriRiver. Jenny is a model of public service and her willingness to adapt, and change has made the departments she’s worked in and the county a better place. Congratulations on a well-deserved retirement and thank you for your many years of service.
