Vote on a request to approve $651.00 funds from North Carolina Division of Public Health - Chronic Disease and Injury Section to support Chatham County’s Asthma Assessment Program.

Abstract

Action Requested: Vote on a request to approve $651.00 funds from North Carolina Division of Public Health - Chronic Disease and Injury Section to support Chatham County’s Asthma Assessment Program.

Introduction & Background: Asthma programs in certain North Carolina communities have demonstrated that asthma trigger assessments conducted in homes of children with poorly controlled asthma improve outcomes for these children.  Improved outcomes include reduced school absenteeism, emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and medical care costs.

Discussion & Analysis: The US EPA provided funding to North Carolina Division of Public Health to work with local health departments interested in implementing an asthma assessment program.  Chatham County was one of the selected local health departments to participate in this pilot program in 2017.  Additional funds are available for disbursement to the pilot counties to continue supporting asthma intervention efforts.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Objective 10 - Goal: Foster a healthy community, Strategy 2.1 and Strategy 7.2

Budgetary Impact: No Local Funding Requested

Recommendation: Vote on a request to approve $651.00 funds from North Carolina Division of Public Health - Chronic Disease and Injury Section to support Chatham County’s Asthma Assessment Program.
