Title
Vote to approve a contract with Delta Dental for three years for the Special Healthcare Needs Benefit
Abstract
Introduction & Background: Chatham County provides dental insurance for employees through a contract with Delta Dental. Human Resources would like to add the Special Healthcare Needs Benefit for employees with special needs dependents.
Discussion & Analysis:
The three-year contract will allow Chatham County to lock in a guaranteed rate for administrative services fees for the three years. The Special Healthcare Needs Benefit will provide employees and their dependents with special health care needs to be eligible for additional services including exams, hygiene visits, dental case management, and silver diamine fluoride treatment. Special health care needs include any physical, developmental, mental, sensory, behavioral, cognitive, or emotional impairment or limiting condition that requires medical management, healthcare intervention, and/or use of specialized services or programs. The condition may be congenital, developmental, or acquired through disease, trauma, or environmental cause and may impose limitations in performing daily self-maintenance activities or substantial limitations.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Providing dental services for county employees helps foster a healthy community as identified in goal 10. This only strengthens this dedication by carving out a special benefit to our special needs employees and their covered dependents.
Budget Impact: This benefit is being offered to Chatham County at no additional cost.
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve a contract with Delta Dental for three years for the Special Healthcare Needs Benefit.
