Title
Vote to adopt a resolution approving the 2026 Board of Commissioners Meeting Schedule and FY 2027 Budget Calendar

Abstract
Introduction & Background: North Carolina General Statute 153A-40 states that the board of commissioners shall hold a regular meeting at least once a month and may hold more frequent regular meetings. The board may by resolution fix the time and place of its regular meetings. If such a resolution is adopted, at least 10 days before the first meeting to which the resolution is to apply, the board shall cause a copy of it posted on the courthouse bulletin board and a summary of it to be published.

Discussion & Analysis: Each year the Board of Commissioners has chosen to adopt a resolution with the dates affixed. The Board of Commissioners have identified the third Mondays of the month as regular meeting dates.
Two months are not the third Monday in 2026. The first is January 20 is a Tuesday, which is due to the holiday on the third Monday. The second is December 14 is the second Monday, due to the third Monday following during the week of Christmas. This same change took place ten years ago.

The Board of Commissioners can always call a Special Meeting with 48-hours' notice and a stated purpose, as they have done in the past, for discussions or presentations of items needed outside of a regular scheduled meeting.

The Board of Commissioners 2026 calendar includes twenty-eight meetings, some of which are full days. We have tried to identify the joint meetings in the calendar as well, although all the dates are not currently set. This schedule should be more than adequate to handle the required business before the Board of Commissioner's throughout the year.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Although not a goal in Plan Chatham, public transparency of the Board of Commissioners meetings and schedule is a goal of both the Board and Staff.

Budgetary Impact: No budgetary impact for this item.
