Action Requested: Approve Proclamation
Introduction & Background: For a number of years now, April has been proclaimed Sexual Assault Awareness Month across the nation. Chatham County has participated in these activities, including a proclamation by the Board of Commissioners since 2007.
Discussion and Analysis: Sexual assault is a significant problem in our community. There are many myths and misconceptions about sexual assault the affect victims in coming forward and our community in fighting this problem. During sexual assault awareness month we bring the community focus on sexual assault, how it affects people in our community and steps individuals can take to help victims and prevent violence, The proclamation is a way in which the Board of Commissioners can participate in this effort.
