Title
Vote to purchase real property on Renaissance Drive identified as parcel numbers 0012490, 0075198, 0075196 and 0075197 for $425,000 and authorize the County Manager to negotiate the contract
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The four (4) parcels constitute 1.953 total acres located on the western margin of Renaissance Drive in Pittsboro and are adjacent to the Chatham County Detention Center. The parcels are situated between two other Chatham County owned parcels (0012481 and 0089610). There are two residences on the property, one uninhabitable mobile home and one that is vacant. This is the only property on Renaissance Drive with a residential structure.
Discussion & Analysis: The property owner approached the county about purchasing the property. An appraisal was completed in March 2026 by Birch Appraisal Group that examined the property for residential, commercial and industrial use. The appraisal findings concluded that the highest and best use of the property was for commercial/industrial development at a value of $425,000.
Acquisition of these parcels would provide a critical connection between two other large parcels of land owned by the county, allowing for better use of all of them collectively.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: This item tangentially relates to Plan Chatham goal of becoming more resilient by mitigating, responding and adapting to emerging threats by consolidating county landholdings for more efficient use.
Budgetary Impact: $425,000
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to purchase real property on Renaissance Drive identified as parcel numbers 0012490, 0075198, 0075196 and 0075197 for $425,000 and authorize the County Manager to negotiate the contract.
