Title

Vote to approve a contract with UNC Health for implementation of EPIC Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system at the Chatham County Public Health Department

Abstract

Introduction & Background: UNC Health is a not-for-profit integrated health care system owned by the State of North Carolina and based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Given the benefit to patients when medical providers have access to the EMR System when caring for patients, the Chatham County Public Health Department desires to obtain the right to access and use the EMR System, and, in order to better serve the health needs of its community, UNC Health desires to provide such access.

Discussion & Analysis: The Chatham County Public Health Department plans to transition its EMR used for clinical services to EPIC effective October 1, 2024. This transition will promote collaboration and connectivity across providers, supporting referrals and coordination of care. It will also provide long-term cost savings. The initial term of the contract is three years and may then be auto-renewed in one-year periods.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Relates to Plan Goal #10: Foster a healthy community.

Budgetary Impact: The Chatham County Public Health Department has funding available to cover the cost of implementation this fiscal year and will budget for annual ongoing fees in subsequent fiscal years. No additional funding is requested this fiscal year, and ongoing costs are expected to be lower than those related to the EMR software currently used.

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve a contract with UNC Health for implementation of EPIC Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system at the Chatham County Public Health Department.
