Action Requested: Request direction on further action to take.
Introduction & Background: On September 28-29, 2015, the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center hosted the 2015 Rural Broadband Assembly. Chatham County maintains a high degree of interest in bringing connectivity to all of its citizens, recognizing the need, the value and benefits of finding a way to meet this demand. The assembly provided experts from the FCC, NTIA and others to discuss the importance of collaboration and to relay facts aimed at assisting communities who find they are without service. This presentation is to share information from the assembly and relevant information regarding the Chatham County network.
Discussion & Analysis: The presentation will cover information presented at the Rural Broadband Assembly along with relevant information about fiber and broadband in Chatham County.
Budgetary Impact: Not applicable at this time.
Recommendation: Specific steps to success are provided through the Rural Center. This would be a good place for a task force to begin if the Board of Commissioners desires to pursue this topic further.
