Receive an update on the Chatham County Minority Entrepreneur and Small Business Needs Assessment and Peer County Small Business Assistance Research

 

Abstract

Introduction & Background: In 2022 the Chatham County Board of Commissioners received the Chatham County Minority Entrepreneur and Small Business Needs Assessment, which indicated several recommendations for the County to follow to address needs indicated in the report. Based upon this, staff will provide an update on progress and actions toward the recommendations from the report.

 

Additionally, at the Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners on February 16th, 2026. Staff was directed to provide research on what peer communities have done regarding small business assistance, and similar programs. This presentation will present those findings.

                     

Discussion & Analysis: Provide direction on next steps related to Minority Entrepreneur and Small Business Needs Assessment and Peer County Small Business assistance research as necessary.

 

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: This item relates to Goal 4 of Plan Chatham regarding the support of small businesses: Diversify the tax base and generate more high-quality, in-county jobs to reduce dependence on residential property taxes, create economic opportunity and reduce out commuting.
