Vote on a Request to Approve an Agreement to Consolidate County and Town Tax Billing with the Town of Apex

 

Abstract

Action Requested:  Vote on a request to approve an agreement to consolidate county and town tax billing with the Town of Apex.

                     

Introduction & Background:  On March 22, 2022, the Apex Town Council adopted an ordinance amending the official zoning district map #22CZ02 which resulted in an annexation in Chatham County.  Chatham County currently bills and collects property taxes for the Towns of Goldston, Pittsboro, Siler City, and Cary.  The annexation of the Town of Apex in Chatham County results in the billing and collecting of property taxes of the parcels affected by this action.

                     

Discussion & Analysis:  The Town of Apex has requested that Chatham County bill and collect for the property taxes of the property annexed as Apex does not have a tax department.  Chatham County will maintain records indicating the amount assessed and collected for the town and provide monthly reporting.

 

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: NA

                     

Budgetary Impact:  The Town of Apex will pay to the county, as reimbursement for its services in billing and collection of town taxes, a commission of two tenths (0.20%) of one percent of all taxes collected.

                     

Recommendation:  Vote to approve the agreement to consolidate county and town tax billing with the Town of Apex.
