Title

Vote on a request to approve Lease to Liberty Chapel Church of Moncure of the old Town Square in the former Town of Haywood for use as a Public Park and authorize the county manager to sign the Lease.

Abstract

Action Requested: Vote to approve Lease.

Introduction & Background:

In 2013, Liberty Chapel Church of Moncure requested that the County consider leasing the old town square in the former town of Haywood to the church to be used as a public park.  The Board of Commissioners agreed that the Haywood Town Square property can and should be used by Chatham County to provide additional and needed recreational activities in the southeastern part of Chatham County. On January 21, 2014, the Board put forth a proposed Resolution requesting the North Carolina General Assembly to direct the Department of Administration to convey a certain tract of land in the former Town of Haywood, Chatham County, belonging to the State of North Carolina and formerly used and designated as a Public Square to Chatham County.  On October 13, 2015, the State conveyed the Town Square back to Chatham County.
