Vote to approve the grant application to Crime Victim Services of NC Governor's Crime Commission for Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) funding
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and STOP Grant provide essential funding for programs that address and prevent violence against women. These programs include law enforcement training, victim services, and efforts to improve prosecution and prevention. This proposal seeks to secure funding from these programs to further enhance our community's efforts in combating domestic violence and related offenses.
Discussion & Analysis: VAWA and STOP Grants are integral to support local law enforcement and community-based organizations working to address gender-based violence. The funding supports victim advocacy services, judicial training, and initiatives aimed at reducing the occurrence of intimate partner violence and improving community outreach. Grant funding would allow us to continue these efforts and expand support for victims, enhance professional training, and improve victim safety. The funds will be used for staffing, training, and community outreach programs designed to reduce recidivism and improve victim recovery
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: This proposal directly aligns with the Comprehensive Plan by reinforcing commitment to a safe community, supporting survivors of domestic violence, and promoting justice for those affected by violence. Funding from VAWA and the STOP Grant will further our goals of fostering a safe and supportive environment for all citizens, particularly women and marginalized groups who face increased risks of violence.
