Title: Vote to apply for the United States Department of Energy Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant for county facilities

Title

Vote to apply for the United States Department of Energy Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant for county facilities

Abstract

Introduction & Background: The US Department of Energy provides an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant through the North Carolina State Energy Office.

Discussion & Analysis: Staff are proposing contracting for an energy audit on the County buildings that use the most energy and/or have the highest energy use intensity.  This would bring some county buildings into the list that are in the Siler City area, such as the Western Senior Center and Public Health clinic, for geographic and socioeconomic diversity and impact.  The audit will be approximately $75,000 of the overall budget, with the remainder in place to implement some of the recommendations from the energy audit.

Since the recommendations from the audits are currently unknown, these would have to be prioritized once the audits are completed. The remaining $275,000 of the grant request would be used to accomplish some of the prioritized recommendations.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan:

Budgetary Impact: No impact for this application.

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to apply for the United States Department of Energy Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant for county facilities.
