Vote to approve a five-year contract with Baron Weather for weather monitoring and alerting software to be used by Emergency Operations and other departments and stakeholders

Abstract

Introduction & Background: Emergency Operations has a need to use real-time weather monitoring and alerting software products for daily operations as well as during emergency incidents and disasters. Baron Threat Net from Baron Weather solves this need. Parks and Recreation will also benefit from this product through a collaboration with Emergency Operations, to provide park staff with real-time weather alerts for lightning, wet bulb temperatures and other data points ensuring program participants are safe during severe weather.

Discussion & Analysis: Baron Threat Net will allow us to be more proactive with severe weather threats during daily operations, special events, camps, emergency incidents and disaster responses. Baron Weather also integrates into WebEOC, an incident management software.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Become more resilient by mitigating, responding and adapting to emerging threats.  Ensure public safety through adequate resources, plans, and partnerships to keep people and property safe.  Strengthen relationships with other boards, municipalities, and regional entities to address common challenges and opportunities.

Budgetary Impact: $43,350 ($8,670 per year)

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve a five-year contract with Baron Weather for weather monitoring and alerting software to be used by Emergency Operations and other departments and stakeholders.
