Vote to approve the FCC Letter of Agency authorizing Sound E-rate, Inc to submit the five-year funding of the E-Rate program for the library system

 

Abstract

Introduction & Background: The E-Rate program (Universal Service Schools and Libraries Program), administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) for the FCC, provides 20% to 90% discounts on telecommunications, internet access, and internal connections to eligible K-12 schools and libraries. It aims to make high-speed broadband affordable for digital learning, with funding based on poverty levels and urban/rural location.

                     

Discussion & Analysis: To ensure affordable access to modern telecommunications and information services for schools and libraries.

Eligibility: Public and non-profit private schools (K-12) and libraries are eligible, typically requiring a technology plan and competitive bidding for services

Funding Categories:

Category One: Services to the building, including data transmission, internet access, and telecommunications.

Category Two: Services within the building, including internal connections, basic maintenance, and managed internal broadband services (e.g., Wi-Fi).

Application Process: Applicants must submit requests through the E-Rate Productivity Center (EPC) portal, filing forms (e.g., Form 470, Form 471) to competitive bid and request funding.

This letter authorizes Sound E-rate, Inc to submit the Chatham County FCC forms.
