Receive a presentation on policy options for golf cart use on public roads in unincorporated Chatham County
Abstract
Introduction & Background:
North Carolina law allows counties, by ordinance, to authorize and regulate golf cart use on certain public streets, roads, and highways with posted speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less in unincorporated areas. In the absence of a County ordinance like in Chatham County, traditional golf carts are not permitted on public roads unless they meet the applicable State requirements for low-speed vehicles.
At the request of the Board of Commissioners and in response to substantial resident inquiry, staff will present an overview of the existing legal framework and potential policy options.
