Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Public Health Department Division of Environmental Health applied for a National Environmental Health Association - Food and Drug Administration Retail Flexible Funding Model grant to support ongoing efforts to meet the Retail Program Standards.

The Chatham County Public Health Department Division of Environmental Health Retail Food Program has been enrolled in the voluntary Retail Program Standards since 2011 demonstrating continued progress towards meeting the Retail Program Standards and is a past recipient of the National Environmental Health Association - Food and Drug Administration Retail Flexible Funding Model grant. The Retail Program Standards include nine standards that define effective and responsive retail food programs for the regulation of foodservice and retail food establishments:
1. Regulatory foundation
2. Trained regulatory staff
3. Inspection program based on hazard analysis critical control point principles,
4. Uniform inspection program
5. Foodborne illness and food defense preparedness and response,
6. Compliance and enforcement
7. Industry and community relations
8. Program support and resources
9. Program assessment

Discussion & Analysis: This funding will support the Chatham County Public Health Department Division of Environmental Health Retail Food Program in meeting standards 2, 4, 6, and 8; participating in statewide efforts for standard 5; and pursuit of verification audits of standards 1, 3, 7, and 9. The funding will also support training for Food, Lodging, and Institution program staff. The total amount for the grant is $9,000 and ends March 12, 2027.
