Title

Vote to approve a contract with MXI Environmental Services, LLC for the collection and disposal of household hazardous waste materials

Abstract

Introduction & Background: Solid Waste & Recycling offers nine household hazardous waste (HHW) events each year from March through November. Events are typically on the third Saturday of each month from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The events are provided for residents to safely dispose of HHW materials. A contractor with specialized expertise collects the materials at the HHW events and disposes of them properly. A request for proposal process was completed to find a new contractor.

Discussion & Analysis: Through the request for proposal process, the proposals were evaluated and MXI Environmental Services, LLC was selected as the new contractor.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan:

Objective 8. Become more resilient by mitigating, responding and adapting to emerging threats.

-                     Improve and increase food waste and recycling systems.

Budgetary Impact: The contract with MXI Environmental is for up to $250,000 over the three years of the contract. The cost for the HHW program is dependent on the amount and types of materials brought by residents. The cost is included in the Solid Waste & Recycling budget annually.

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve a contract with MXI Environmental Services, LLC for the collection and disposal of household hazardous waste materials.
