Vote to adopt a Resolution recognize October 19-25, 2025 as Lead Poisoning Prevention Week in Chatham County
Abstract
Introduction & Background: Childhood lead exposure remains a significant public health issue in Chatham County and across the country. Since 2011, when the Chatham County Public Health Department’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program began, staff have conducted more than 1,200 home visits related to children with elevated blood lead levels. National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week is an opportunity to raise awareness about this public health issue and the resources available to community members to help address it.
Discussion & Analysis: The Chatham County Board of Health and Public Health Department are working to raise awareness about lead exposure and encourage universal testing of one- and two-year-olds in the county. This proclamation would help bring attention to this issue.
