Vote to adopt an interlocal agreement with Wake County to allow the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office use of the Wake County Firearms and Education Training Center
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is requesting approval to enter an interlocal agreement with Wake County to utilize the Wake County Firearms and Education Training Center. This facility provides a safe and controlled environment for firearms qualifications, education, and training, including both daytime and nighttime conditions within a single location. The Sheriff’s Office has budgeted funds to cover all associated costs for use of the facility.
Discussion & Analysis: This contract maintains similar terms to the previous agreement with Wake County for use of the Firearms and Education Training Center. Wake County has consistently met expectations and maintained a safe and suitable environment for Chatham County Sheriff’s Office personnel to train and complete firearms qualifications. The current contract with Wake County is set to expire on June 30, 2026.

Budgetary Impact: No additional funding is required. The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office budgeted the cost of this agreement.
