ABSTRACT
Action Requested: Motion to approve the Emergency Medical Services five year Agreement between FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc. and Chatham County.
Introduction & Background: Chatham County originally entered into an agreement with FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc. on May 5, 1997 for FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc. to provide emergency medical services within Chatham County at the paramedic level. The current agreement was entered into on September 1, 2018. Chatham County and First Health of the Carolinas, Inc. have agreed to a five year agreement.
Discussion and Analysis: Chatham County and FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc. will enter into a five year agreement to provide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at the paramedic level. In addition to managing traditional elements of an EMS system such as medical direction, personnel, continuing education, supplies, equipment, an ambulance fleet, and billing; FirstHealth provides transportation for the deceased, participates in local emergency planning and exercises, conducts community outreach, and serves on the Regional EMS Advisory Council.
