Title
Vote to adopt a Resolution for the Suttles Road SR 1809 Partial Abandonment
Abstract
Introduction & Background: This is to request an approval of a resolution for the abandonment of a portion of SR 1809, also known as Suttles Road. Be advised that 1.61 miles of this road is being retained for State Maintenance. Abandonment is proposed once the NCDOT Suttles Road realignment project (R-5963D) is completed (expected 3rd-4th quarter, 2025).
Discussion & Analysis: This request was submitted by NC Department of Transportation staff to the county. Although the road is located within the Town of Pittsboro’s planning jurisdiction, NCDOT is requesting adoption of a resolution for the abandonment from the town and county.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: The Chatham County Comprehensive Plan calls for a thoughtful, diverse, and resilient roadway system to serve the county. In the state of North Carolina, the transportation planning process is heavily dependent upon the State of North Carolina’s Department of Transportation for guidance, maintenance of county roads, and long-range transportation plans. Cooperating and continuing a positive relationship with NCDOT is crucial to the future development of Chatham County’s Road system.
Budgetary Impact: N/A
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to adopt a Resolution for the Suttles Road SR 1809 Partial Abandonment.
