Abstract
Introduction & Background: Vote to adopt the Chatham County Master Aging Plan and accompanying resolution supporting the designation of Chatham County as an Age-Friendly Community.
Discussion & Analysis: Chatham County’s aging population continues to grow. In response to this growth, the County’s acquisition of the Council on Aging, and the desire to be designated as an AARP Age-Friendly Community, staff conducted an extensive public engagement and planning process to develop the Chatham County Master Aging Plan. The plan provides a coordinated framework to guide the County’s efforts to support aging residents and address their current and future needs.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: The Master Aging Plan supports several Plan Chatham goals, including Goal 3: Promote a compact growth pattern by developing in and near existing towns, communities, and in designated, well planned, walkable, mixed use centers, Goal 6: Provide recreational opportunities and access to open space, Goal 8: Become more resilient by mitigating, responding, and adapting to emerging threats, Goal 9: Provide equitable access to high-quality education, housing and community options for all, and Goal 10: Foster a healthy community.
Budgetary Impact: Adoption of the Chatham County Master Aging Plan will have no immediate budgetary impact. Implementation of individual goals and strategies may require future funding or staff resources and will be considered through the County’s regular budget and approval processes, as applicable.
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to adopt the Chatham County Master Aging Plan and accompanying resolution and letter recognizing support for the designation of Chatham County as an Age Friendly Community.
