Title
Vote to adopt a resolution to recognize August as Child Support Awareness month
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The state of North Carolina regularly acknowledges Child Support Awareness during the month of August.
Discussion & Analysis: Child support professionals, the judicial system and community partners work to support child well-being and recognize the essential role of both parents through the establishment of child support agreements and orders. (ACF-OCSE).
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: This relates directly to the Comprehensive Plan goal to “Foster a Healthy Community.” Child Support services ensure there is consistent financial support for children from both parents. Increased support is “associated with increased parent-child engagement, which can lead not only to better academic and social outcomes for children, but also better parent-child and parent to parent relationships.” (2021-Selekman and Holcomb - ASPE)
Budgetary Impact: None
Recommendation/Motion: Vote to adopt a resolution to recognize August as Child Support Awareness month.
