Abstract
Introduction & Background: Parks and Recreation has requested to have a building constructed for maintenance and equipment storage on the east side of the County. Currently, the tractor and implements are stored in the maintenance building at Northwest Park in Silk Hope and there is not a secure location to store the equipment on the east side of the County. When equipment is needed at The Park at Briar Chapel or Northeast Park, the Parks and Recreation staff spend three hours of labor in loading/unloading and chain down/unchaining the equipment along with fuel for the 36-mile round trip.
Formal bids were received on March 21, 2023. Project was posted twice, but we only received two submittals. Laughlin-Sutton Construction Company was the lowest responsible responsive bidder for a total of $216,850.00.
Discussion & Analysis: This project includes one 40’ x 60’ pre-engineered building with an overhead door, standard entry door, windows, and an exhaust fan, one foundation with a 12” x 12” perimeter footing and 4” monolithic concrete slab which will require backfill due to the slope of the building site. Electrical requirement will be a new service designed by a licensed electrician, LED bay lights, 8 outlet circuits and a circuit to run an exhaust fan. Plumbing will include one frost-free yard hydrant outside the building as the nearest water source is about 200’ away.
