Vote to adopt a resolution recognizing Digital Inclusion Week

Abstract
Introduction & Background: Digital inclusion is the ability of individuals and communities to access and effectively use affordable, reliable broadband internet, internet-enabled devices, digital literacy training, technical support, and online resources. Recognizing the growing importance of digital access in everyday life, Chatham County adopted its Digital Inclusion Plan in 2024 to advance digital equity and ensure all residents have the technological capacity needed to achieve their educational, economic, health, and civic goals. National Digital Inclusion Week, observed October 4-10, 2026, provides an opportunity to highlight these efforts and raise awareness about the need to bridge the digital divide.

Discussion & Analysis: Chatham County continues to advance digital inclusion through its Digital Inclusion Working Group and partnerships with libraries, educational institutions, local organizations, and county departments. These collaborative efforts focus on expanding broadband access, increasing availability of devices, and providing accessible digital skills training across the county. As more services, employment opportunities, educational resources, healthcare access, and civic engagement activities move online, ensuring residents have the skills and tools needed to participate remains a critical priority. Recognizing National Digital Inclusion Week demonstrates the County's commitment to supporting digital equity initiatives and acknowledging the contributions of community partners who help connect residents to essential digital resources.
