Title
Vote to adopt a resolution recognizing the Chatham County Public Health Department for being named the 2026 North Carolina Local Health Department of the Year

Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Board of Commissioners is requested to consider a resolution recognizing the Chatham County Public Health Department (CCPHD) for being named the 2026 North Carolina Local Health Department of the Year by the North Carolina Public Health Association. The award was presented on October 1, 2026, during the Association’s Annual Fall Conference in Concord, North Carolina, and honors CCPHD’s outstanding and innovative contributions to improving community health.

Discussion & Analysis: The award recognizes the collective efforts of CCPHD staff across all programs and divisions in providing high-quality, community-centered public health services. Notable initiatives highlighted in the award nomination include the expansion of clinical and community-based services addressing communicable diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, substance use, and behavioral health; the launch of a 24/7 wellness vending machine providing naloxone and other essential health supplies; and the development and implementation of a countywide Heat Action Plan. The nomination also recognized CCPHD’s leadership in regional public health partnerships and collaboration with academic institutions, including the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and the North Carolina Institute for Public Health, to strengthen public health capacity throughout central North Carolina.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: The work of the Chatham County Public Health Department directly supports the Comprehensive Plan’s goals of promoting healthy communities, improving quality of life, fostering collaboration, and ensuring equitable access to services and resources for all residents.

Budgetary Impact: There is no budgetary impact associated with adoption of this resolution.
