Vote on a request to award the bid for the Central Carolina Community College Walking Trail Renovations to A&M Construction Service Inc.

ABSTRACT

Action Requested: Vote on a request to award the bid for the Central Carolina Community College Walking Trail Renovations to A&M Construction Service Inc.

Introduction & Background: Currently there is a 4,900 foot long (+/- 100 ft), average of 6 foot wide walking trail around the outer portion of the Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) campus located in Pittsboro, NC that has several areas are unsafe and in need of repair. Chatham County and CCCC requested bids for the demolition and removal of the existing asphalt path, removal of marked trees along the path, rework of the subgrade to include addressing root infiltration, and applying 2” of asphalt. Bids were received on August 4, 2018 from which A&M Construction Service Inc. was the apparent low bidder.

Discussion & Analysis: It is requested that the BOC approve the award of the bid to A&M Construction Service Inc. to allow demo and replacement of the trail to meet the necessary December 1, 2018 schedule for CCCC planned activities.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan:  1. Preserve the rural character and lifestyle of Chatham County - continue to encourage being outdoors and active; 6. Provide recreational opportunities and access to open spaces - improve the conditions of the trail to provide a safer place to exercise; 10. Foster a healthy community - promote getting outside to exercise with access to better facilities.

Budgetary Impact:  The CCCC Trail Renovations is a CIP project that was approved for the FY19 budget year and is included in the FY19 budget.

Recommendation: Motion to award the bid for the Central Carolina Community College Walking Trail Renovations to A&M Construction Service Inc.
