Abstract
Action Requested: Vote on a request to award the installation of a larger pump at the Jack Bennett Tank Pump Station to Charles Underwood, Inc., in the amount of $119,607, and allow the County Manager to sign the contract on behalf of the County.
Introduction & Background: The pump station at Chatham County’s Jack Bennett tank plays a vital role in supplying water from the Water Treatment Plant to Chatham County’s residents that live in the North System. Currently there are two pumps running at or beyond capacity during the high demand months. Due to the age and strain on these pumps, they are being serviced and repaired more frequently. During the summer months, when demand is at its highest, they are unable to keep up.
Discussion & Analysis: Having a contractor install a newly purchased larger pump that can handle the high demand months will allow the pump station to run more efficiently, reducing maintenance and electricity costs. The older pumps can be used as backup and during emergency situations. Three contractors were solicited for quotes: A.C. Shultes ($192,345), Charles Underwood Inc. ($119,607) and Tencarva (No Bid - Could not meet pump specifications)
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: The larger pump will allow the pump station to run more efficiently, conserving natural resources.
