Abstract

Public hearing to receive comments on an application for the North Carolina Community Development Block Grant 2018 Neighborhood Revitalization Program in the amount of $750,000.

                     

Introduction & Background:

In April of 2018, the Department of Commerce announced that non-entitlement counties and municipalities would be able to apply for up to $750,000 in CDBG funds under the CDBG Neighborhood Program. Applications are due September 27, 2018 at 5pm. The County hopes to submit an application this year. Following application guidelines and procedures, August 20th is the first of two public hearings of the application process where the county hopes to gain public input on what type of application should be submitted.

                     

Discussion & Analysis:

County staff has been working with Triangle J Council of Governments to prepare an application for the 2018 CDBG Neighborhood Revitalization program. There is no match required by the county. Thus far various ideas have been discussed such as single-family rehabilitation, local improvements, and the creation shelter for domestic violence victims.

 

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan:

N/A

 

Budgetary Impact:

Currently considering contracts to update the county’s Fair Housing Plan and Analysis of Impediments study. Later in the process if an application is submitted, there may be a need to contract administrative services to assist with management of the grant itself if awarded the money.
