Title
Vote to accept $10,000 from NC DHHS’s Farmworker Influenza and COVID-19 Funding Opportunity
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The North Carolina Immunization Program is allocating funding as well as additional flu and COVID-19 vaccines to 20 Local Health Departments (LHDs), including Chatham, to support farmworker vaccination efforts. The goal of this activity is to protect farmworkers and their families, protect critical infrastructure, and reduce the burden of respiratory illnesses in the fall/winter to the healthcare system. This initiative was established due to the ongoing circulation of H5 avian influenza (including in wild birds, poultry, and dairy cattle) in the United States, and will specifically focus on farmworkers who work with livestock, dairy, and poultry.
Discussion & Analysis: Funding will be used to promote COVID-19 and flu vaccines to this target population through direct outreach (in partnership with Cooperative Extension) and social media. It may also support staffing for immunization campaigns.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Plan Goal #10: Foster a healthy community.
Budgetary Impact: N/A
Recommendation: Motion to accept $10,000 from NC DHHS’s Farmworker Influenza and COVID-19 Funding Opportunity.
