Receive a presentation from the Conservation Working Group
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Conservation Working Group is an intragovernmental initiative that seeks to bring together and promote collaboration among Chatham County departments/agencies whose work addresses the County’s environmental goals. Each department selects a staff representative who attends monthly meetings. The Board of Commissioners has requested that the Conservation Working Group provide bi-annual presentations to the Board.
Discussion & Analysis: The presentation will provide an introduction of the new Conservation and Resiliency Planner as well as an overview of recently completed conservation work from the first half of 2025. In addition, highlights of current and future collaborative efforts within the Conservation Working Group will be discussed. Updates are provided by the Soil and Water Conservation District, Cooperative Extension Office, Parks and Recreation, GIS, Watershed Protection, Environmental Health, Environmental Quality, and Planning Departments.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: The Conservation Working Group was formed in an effort to better coordinate Chatham County’s progress towards achieving the environmental goals within the Comprehensive Plan. The Conservation Working Group is actively working on defining the metrics set out in the Plan to illuminate work already completed and opportunities where future effort could be pursued.
