Vote to approve purchase of a roll-off truck for Solid Waste & Recycling
Abstract
Introduction & Background: As part of the budget process, vehicles are evaluated for mileage and reliability. A roll-off truck was approved for Solid Waste & Recycling for fiscal year 2026.
Discussion & Analysis: NC General Statutes allow the County to use Statewide Term Contracts previously bid through a competitive bidding process. The state of North Carolina has conducted a competitive bid which includes roll-off trucks, Statewide Term Contract 2518A-Class 8 Truck Cab and Chassis. TranSource is one of the awarded vendors.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: These trucks allow Solid Waste & Recycling to efficiently collect trash and recycle from across the county. In addition, newer diesel trucks are more efficient and produce less pollutants than older trucks. Replacing the older trucks should save on maintenance cost, fuel cost, and help protect the environment due to lower emissions.
Budgetary Impact: The cost of the truck is $241,790.
