Vote to approve the Sole Source for Detention Center Body Scanner
Abstract
Introduction & Background: As originally approved through a budget expansion, The Chatham County Detention Center is looking to sole source the purchase of a body scanner. Due to the construction and setup of the Detention Center, Tek84 is the only company that produces a body scanner that has the needed dimensions that will fit in the Detention Center without incurring extra costs to make unneeded changes to the building.
Discussion & Analysis: Body scanners are used to detect hidden contraband such as weapons, drugs, or other prohibited items that individuals may attempt to bring into the facility. These scanners can identify harmful items concealed within or on the body, which helps maintain a safer environment within the facility for everyone. Ensuring the safety of both inmates and staff is crucial. Body scanners add an extra layer of security by providing a non-invasive yet thorough method of checking individuals entering and within our facility.

Budgetary Impact: Funds are included in the Chatham County Sheriff's Detention Center FY2023-2024 budget for capital outlay.
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve the sole source for the Tek84 body scanner to be installed at the Chatham County Detention Center.
