Title

Vote on Request to approve the contract with Waste Industries (GFL) of Sanford transfer station and to authorize the County Manager to execute the contract.

Abstract

Action Requested: Vote on Request to approve the contract with Waste Industries (GFL) of Sanford transfer station and to authorize the County Manager to execute the contract.

Introduction & Background: Compactor and bulky containers are taken from some of the Collection Centers and hauled to Waste Industries (GFL) Transfer Station in Sanford.

Discussion & Analysis: The majority of the municipal solid waste (MSW) tonnage is taken to Great Oak Landfill in Randolph County.  The transfer station of Sanford and Durham are used as alternate disposal locations because they are closer to some of the Collection Centers from the landfill, there is usually less wait time and less wear and tear on the trucks.  We sign agreements every fiscal year specifying the cost per ton at each disposal location.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Become more resilient by mitigating, responding, and adapting to emerging threats.

Budgetary Impact: Cost per ton $55.82 included in the operating budget.

Recommendation: Approve the contract with Waste Industries (GFL) of Sanford and authorize the County Manager to execute the contract to commence on July 1, 2022.
