Vote on a request to accept $125,000 Grant Funds from The Kresge Foundation for the County’s participation in the Emerging Leaders in Public Health Initiative.

 

Abstract

Action Requested: Vote on a request to accept $125,000 Grant Funds from the Kresge Foundation.

 

                     

Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Public Health Department has been selected to participate in The Kresge Foundation’s third Emerging Leaders in Public Health (ELPH) to work to transform the role of local public health departments in their communities as part of the third cohort of The Kresge Foundation’s Emerging Leaders in Public Health Initiative.

                     

Discussion & Analysis: Kresge’s Emerging Leaders in Public Health was designed to provide public health leaders of county and local health department’s opportunities to build additional knowledge and skills to tackle the challenges they face in their communities.  This initiative is part of the foundation’s Health Program’s strategy to accelerate community-centered approaches that promote health of communities.

During the program, the leaders will participate in an action-oriented program focused on the design and implementation of a transformative concept that shifts or expands the capacity of their local health department.

 

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: The grant funds provides the opportunity to focus on improving the health and wellness of the community to ensure integration of health considerations, health care and equity in Chatham/s plans, programs, projects and policies.
