Title

Vote on a request to adopt a Resolution Seeking Legislative Support on Several Chatham County Issues

Abstract

Action Requested:  Vote to approve the proposed resolution

Introduction & Background:  On Feb. 25, 2016, the County Board of Commissioners and the towns met with State Representative Robert Reives and State Senator Valerie Foushee on several issues of interest to Chatham County.  This resolution affirms the support of the Board of Commissioners on four specific issues:

1.                     Possible special assessment tax district for Chatham Park infrastructure, with language to ensure that Chatham County can reimburse the developer from proceeds without incurring debt or obligating county revenue.

2.                     Emergency funding to expedite NCDOT elevation and repair of Jeremiah Drive, which was completely under water for several weeks in December and January due to Jordan Lake flood levels.  Emergency vehicles could not access these homes during this time.

3.                     The need for legislative pressure on the State of North Carolina to take action to implement a more accurate county assignment of sales tax revenues, replacing a faulty zip code system that has short-changed counties like Chatham for many years.

4.                     The need for counties to have input on any new state-developed formula for economic tiers, so that any such formula recognizes the far-ranging economic differences within most counties.
