Title
Vote to adopt a resolution for an interlocal agreement with the Town of Goldston for Use of Election Facilities
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Board of Elections utilizes polling locations throughout the county to conduct federal, state, and local elections. The Town of Goldston has historically provided the Goldston Town Hall as a location for election-related activities serving voters in the Goldston precinct. To formalize this arrangement and establish the terms and conditions for facility use, Chatham County and the Town of Goldston have prepared an Interlocal Agreement for the use of Goldston Town Hall as an Early Voting Site and Election Day Polling Place.
Discussion & Analysis: North Carolina General Statutes authorize local governments to enter into interlocal agreements for the joint exercise of governmental functions and services. The proposed agreement outlines the responsibilities of both parties regarding the use of the facility for election operations, including voting activities, equipment storage, site preparation, and related election administration needs. Approval of the agreement will ensure the continued availability of a suitable and accessible polling location for Goldston-area voters while clearly defining the obligations of each party.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: This item supports the Comprehensive Plan goal of fostering effective governance and public service delivery by ensuring residents have convenient access to safe, reliable, and accessible voting facilities and by promoting collaboration between local governmental entities.
Budgetary Impact: Any costs associated with election operations at the facility will be budgeted through the Chatham County Board of Elections and are anticipated to be accommodated within existing approved election budgets. No additional County appropriations are requested as part of this action.
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to adopt a resolution for an interlocal agreement with the Town of Goldston for Use of Election Facilities.
