Title

Vote to set the terms for the Community Advisory Committee and advertise vacancies

Abstract

Introduction & Background: The Community Advisory Committee is governed by NCGS §131D31 to advise on the general conditions of long-term care facilities, promote community involvement, and assist in resolving grievances.

In a county that has one, two, or three adult care homes with 10 or more beds, the committee shall have five members. In a county with four or more adult care homes with 10 or more beds, the committee shall have one additional member for each adult care home with 10 or more beds in excess of three and may have up to five additional members at the discretion of the county commissioners, not to exceed a maximum of 25 members.

Any individual who serves as a community advisory committee member must go through the Office of the State LongTerm Care Ombudsman's certification and designation process and meet the certification and designation requirements in accordance with the State LongTerm Care Ombudsman Program Policies and Procedures.

Central Pines Regional Council of Government is contracted to serve as the Ombudsman.

Terms of Office are established in NCGS § 131D31 as each committee member shall serve an initial term of one year. Any person reappointed to a second or subsequent term in the same county shall serve a twoor threeyear term at the county commissioners' discretion to ensure staggered terms of office. All of the current members have served for longer than one year.

Discussion & Analysis: As part of the implementation of the new Advisory Committee Policy, staff reviewed the current terms of all committees. After researching, staff discovered that the Community Advisory Committee had no established terms.

After research of the appointment, staff are recommending the following terms of the Community Advisory Committee.
