Abstract
Action Requested: Discuss and approve nine appointments to the new Climate Change Advisory Committee
Introduction & Background: The Board of Commissioners finalized the requirements for the new Climate Change Advisory Committee on Nov. 16, 2015. The committee is to include The Climate Change Advisory Committee will have nine members appointed by the Board of Commissioners, which is the agenda item today. The towns of Siler City and Pittsboro also have been asked to select a representative. The Town of Pittsboro has selected John Bonitz, but not sure yet who might represent Siler City.
According to the adopted language, the Committee should consist primarily of members who are dedicated to its mission and who have time and resources available to devote to the work and research that will be necessary to accomplish its objectives. It would be useful if Committee membership also included persons with knowledge relating to:
• Renewable energy systems
• Building efficiency
• Green building standards
• Conservation standards applicable in both residential and commercial settings
• Transportation efficiency standards and fuel options
• Forestry and agricultural practices and management
• Ecology and environmental science
• Literature relating to the science of climate change
A small committee of several founding members met to review the 16 applications received and made the following recommendations for the appointments by the Board of Commissioners:

• Amanda Robertson, term ending June 30, 2018
• Sonny Keisler, term ending June 30, 2018
• Laura Lauffer, term ending June 30, 2017
• Alicia Ravetto, term ending June 30, 2019
• Judith Vergun, term ending June 30, 2018
• Jon Darling, term ending June 30, 2017
• Whitney Beers Schmidt, term ending June 30, 2019
• Jeff Gannon, term ending June 30, 2019

Recommendation: Vote to approve the nine recommended appointees.
