ABSTRACT

Action Requested:

A legislative public hearing and vote by the Chatham County Board of Commissioners to amend “An Ordinance Establishing A Planning Board for Chatham County, North Carolina” to revise term limits for Planning Board members.

Introduction & Background:

During the November 21, 2022 Board of Commissioners meeting there was discussion about term limits for Planning Board members and whether it should be revised. At the conclusion of the discussion the board directed staff to schedule a public hearing to consider amending the ordinance.

Discussion & Analysis:

The County Attorney has prepared three options regarding term limits for Planning Board members, and they are provided as attachments. Option 1 is the status quo with clarifications reflecting how the appointment process works. Option 2 removes term limits for all members and Option 3 removes the term limit for the at-large member only. The yellow highlighted sections in Option 2 and 3 are the only changes from Option 1.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan:

Recommendation:
Discuss the options and vote to approve the version that the board supports.
